Thanks to the modifications made in recent years, Circuit de Calafat has been perfectly adapted to the participating team’s requirements for the international electric vehicle tournament, E-Prix. Carrying out your tests in a perfect environment that replicates Formula E World Championship urban circuit layouts, with the added advantage of being able to test on our permanent circuit at any time of the year.
To make all this possible we have introduced additional variants to the classic layout of our speed track, which perfectly match some of the Eprix circuits tightest and most mythical curves. The new layout specifically designed for the FE has a track width of 10 meters, to simulate the urban circuits street size and can reach a total length of 2.9 km in its longest variant, this falls within the usual parameters of e-prix circuits, that measure between 2.5 and 3 km in length. The new layout includes up to 5 new chicanes and 2 slow hairpins in the style of the usual “hairspins” that we find at the Monaco, Rome or New York circuits.
These new winding stretches have been inserted between the long straights and fast curves where the cars arrive at high speed and have to brake heavily, which allows them to recover part of the energy consumed thanks to their regenerative braking systems (KERS). Given the continuous changes of direction to which cars are subjected, they become the ideal laboratory to test transmissions and chassis elements such as; tires, suspensions and control software.
The Jaguar variant is one of the stand out areas of this new track design. It’s a 180º right-hand hairpin with a very tight radius (it imitates turn 10 of the 2021 NY ePrix), which includes integrated kerbs on its inner perimeter, linking its exit with a chicane from left to right on a marked descending slope. A real test of skill for formula E drivers. Also, we have added a 160º hairpin that precedes the entry into the finish line, you reach it from a long fast curve with a wide radius to the right and a slight upward slope at its turning point.
Circuit de Calafat is not the only part that has been adapted to the needs of the Formula E teams, the rest of the facilities and services have also been adapted. We put at your disposal modern and spacious garages with direct access to the track and paddock, they are equipped with basic supplies where engineers and mechanics can perform settings, timing, data extraction through the Alkamel system, official supplier of the World Cup. We also provide the option to install superchargers for the battery recharging etc.
We offer the possibility of contracting additional services, such as night lighting, to extend usable track hours at times of the year with fewer hours of natural light, or for those teams that wish to test under artificial lighting conditions.
It’s also possible to carry out tests on asphalt with less grip, thanks to our artificial irrigation system, which simulates wet track conditions.
Similarly, for greater comfort and better time management of visiting staff, we offer our own supply, catering and accommodation services. In our Paddock Bar you will find the restaurant service you need, without the need to leave the premises. And if you are in the need of accommodation during your stay, Grupo Calafat offers you the possibility of doing so in apartments on the seafront and with supermarket services, restaurants and sports facilities, available in the Calafat urbanization just a few minutes from the circuit.
